Lindsey Stirling, Ford Amphitheater, Vail, Colorado

One of my goals for this summer has been to experience more. More music, more art, more culture. After living in Colorado for four years, I’ve only ever been to a handful of concerts at Red Rocks and Mission Ballroom. I know there’s so much more out there to discover, wherever it may be in Colorado. This past Thursday, my boyfriend and I took a trip to Vail to see Lindsey Stirling Perform at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, an event we found on the new Towwn mobile app.

Towwn, the new mobile app for culture seekers, is showcasing four new literary events with four writers, some known very well and others not so much, teeing them up with word memes. Watch for the way one word — or a small group — expresses an essential characteristic of each writer’s work. Each helps us identify their work to distinguish it from the others below. Easier to recall? We hope so, particularly since these writers all have multi-talents.

Introducing, Maria Kalman. 3XGENIUS. Elizabeth Kolbert. BRILLIANT. OR, CRAZY? Toni Morrison. THE MASTER. And Douglas Kearney. RE-MAPPING

Music has its ways of slipping past our defenses. Its rhythms, melodies, lyrics, all visceral reminders of who we are. For some, dancing around the room, smart phone in hand, is the best cure for anything life tosses our way.

That said, never underestimate the power of watching music documentaries. They bring what we love closer and make what we don’t necessarily love, more approachable. When we love the music, it’s a massive exercise in fandom. When we don’t, a music doc says, “Hold tight for a minute…What if we knew more backstory?” How was this not-so-favorite music born, who…
