Happy Friday folks!
This weekend I’m looking forward to relaxing and tuning in to some new music and podcasts. This week I was looking for things to listen to rather than watch, so I took to Towwn where I found music I never would have heard otherwise and a new podcast to tune into!
I’ve seen and heard Jon Batiste on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert before, but I found a special performance from him on Towwn this week and was immediately intrigued. I’m not generally on the lookout for jazz music, but I recognized his name and decided to check it out. Batiste has a long history of performing at the Aspen Ideas Festival and chose to do a virtual performance this year. What I loved about his performance was the mix of beautiful music and lyrics, he also reflects on previous Festival appearances and the themes behind some of his pieces. He believes that music is an integral part in cultural change. I found his performance truly inspiring. I loved hearing the music and what he had to say about it. To me, this performance acted as reminder of how important art and music are in the world, acting to bring people together and share new ideas.

I also found a new podcast that I am super excited to dive into over the next couple of weeks! The Way I See It is a podcast hosted by art critic and broadcaster Alastair Sooke that explores the ways extraordinary creative thinkers see the world. The podcast features 30 guests over 30 episodes to talk about the work they love and how art inspires both their work and their lives. It looks to provoke, inspire and startle us into new ways of seeing art and our world. I’m excited to start listening to this because I think seeing art (and the world) from different perspectives is one of the ways we can grow and learn, something I never want to stop doing.

The thing about Towwn is that I don’t think I ever would have found these two new things that I’m so excited about without it. Towwn has helped me broaden my interests by showing me things that I wouldn’t have even known I was interested in before like podcasts, documentaries, artist interviews and so much more. So, thank you Towwn for opening up my world! I hope it will do the same for you! Until next time,
Keighlee
