Sharon Van Etten played to a sold out crowd on February 18th at The Gothic Theatre. Englewood, where the Gothic resides, was host to Van Etten’s ninth show on her two-month tour through the US and Europe for the release of her fifth album, Remind Me Tomorrow.

British artist Nilüfer Yanya and her band opened the show to a surprisingly large crowd for their 8pm set time. The talented young artist whose debut album, Miss Universe is set to be released on March 22, played to a small group of fans and walked away with a room full of new ones.

Taking the stage just after 9pm, Van Etten’s piercing vocals instantly took command of the 1100 capacity theatre. Having changed her sound on the new album, replacing the more guitar centered songs from the past with piano and synth, Van Etten was careful to balance the set with both new and old material. Her raw and heavy energy, paired with simple, well executed lighting captivated the attentive crowd. The almost hour long performance ended with a three song encore and confirmation to the audience that Sharon Van Etten had successfully made her comeback.
