The act of printing has always seemed to me a miracle, just such a miracle as the growing up of a tiny seed of grain to an ear — an everyday miracle, even the greater because it happens every day. One drawing is sown on the stone or the etching plate, and a harvest is reaped from it. ~ Vincent van Gogh

How many printmakers live within 528.0 miles of our Mile High City? Over 400 artists applied to be selected for the new 528.0 Regional Juried Printmaking Exhibition beautifully curated by the @arvadacenter. The jurors chose 76 works to help Denver celebrate the expansive diversity of contemporary printmaking found within the western region.

This is one of the most stunning art exhibits in Denver right now. Why? Just watch this video of Taiko Chandler (@taikochandler, Denver, CO) installing Moment in Black, her multidimensional monotype on Tyvek. Truth be told, this work is mind blowing. Standing inches from it, you will feel her vision, appreciate the intricacies of her craft and respect her immense talent.

Other artists who impressed included Erin Aloysia (@erin_aloysia, Frisco, CO), Evan Colbert (Longmont, CO), Susan Oehme (@oehmegraphics, Steamboat Springs, CO), Peter Yumi (@peteryumi, Denver, CO) and Mami Yamamoto (@mamiyamamotofinke, Denver, CO) — but every artist in this exhibition possesses remarkable artistic gifts.

Erin Barry, The Western Landscape III, Jigsaw reductive woodcut, 2019
Susan Oehme, The Sum Of Our Parts, Mixed media, 2019, 14' x 20'
Peter Yumi, The Machine (disappearing room), sculpture and silkscreen, 2018
Mami Yamamato, Somewhere Beyond Imagination

With Denver’s Month of Printmaking celebration (aka Mo’Print) arriving in March, the Arvada Center exhibition is a masterclass in printmaking techniques and possibilities.

We highly recommend brunch or lunch at the Schoolhouse Kitchen & Libations. Built in the original @oldetownarvada schoolhouse (built in 1882), they offer 1,400 different whiskeys, 50 beers, and a sizable menu in a variety of rooms — the Library Bar, Home Room dining area, upstairs Teachers Lounge, and Arvada’s first rooftop patio.
